The first of three live art events happened over the weekend in Hampton, Peterborough. We had That Bloke Wilson, Jason Duckmanton, Pigeon La Rue, Process and Cur5 all painting live on the day with Lee Mason supplying virtual reality sculpting sessions. We do it all again this Saturday with 8 new artists so come down to The Undercroft this Saturday to take in this rare opportunity to see street artists painting live throughout the day. As well as live art there will also be a gallery and the opportunity to book virtual reality sculpting sessions. Free entry is at the back of Serpentine Green Shopping Centre. Huge thanks to V_IPhotography for the photos.

As soon as I saw the giant wall in my new studio I knew I needed to host a little paint jam. 24 hours later and I had a confirmed line up. Its free parking, free entry so why not come along to one, or all three of the live paint events.
I wasnt sure what expect from FLUX [beta], was it going to be a series of geek talks, a gamer night out or a glitch hop rave? Turns out it was all of these things and much more. It all sarted with talks from Airborne Platforms who showcased their cinematic drone work and Matt Lancaster who got to show off a laser scanner which generated amazingly accurate 3D images of rooms in minutes. Next up was a masterclass in electronic music from Skills and Joe followed by a captivating demonstration of virtual reality sculpting by Lee Mason and Process. All this was held together with retro gaming and a live DJ set topped off with an opportunity to play on a VRcade supplied by The Outstanding Events Company. Lee Mason and co have done a great job pulling this event together and with any luck there will be follow up nights coming soon but the only way you'll know for sure is by joining the Metageist group on Meetup. Since being told I would be losing my old studio and the end of last year I've been on the lookout for a new place to art and as a result I moved into the Undercroft in Hampton. Its a fantastic space, large enough to grow and a little rough around the edges to suit the way I paint. Check out these photos from Viphotography. Gotta say a huge thanks to everyone that supported the search from Metal for their advice to Simon at The Ostrich for his sheer willingness to find somewhere but especially Keely Mills for letting me take up residency at the Eastern Angles theatre space at The Undercroft. The plan is to eventually hold a paint jam and some workshops and artist talks here so if that is something that floats your boat please get in touch using the button below. At the moment the studio is open every Friday between 9 and 3 for you to take a look at the art on display, check out the apparel store or just hang out with coffee.
WARNING R-RATED CONTENT. DO NOT READ THIS BLOG IF YOU ARE EASILY OFFENDED! In a change to the usual format Battle Lines 6 consisted of 4 artists from 2 tattoo studios going head to head (to head to head) so instead of 2 artists collaborating on one large board each artist got their own A2 sheet of paper to draw on. Battle Lines is fun but it can be a bit of a pressure cooker especially if you start making a few mistakes. Look carefully in the following photos and you may see the start of the issue that left one artist (allegedly) tearing up his work and walking out. Despite the controversy Battle Lines 6 was still a great night with delish food from Resist Vegan Kitchen, free art from Process and awesome tunes from Curs. So did you spot the mistake? Check out the drip on photo 5...ouch!!
If that's not put you off and you fancy having a go at Battle Lines you just need to send them a message to register your interest...good news is if you're aged between 13 and 19 there is a youth event too so you don't have to slow down for us old timers!! Battle Lines 5 was Mat Peacock v Graham George. I was only able to make a quick visit but still managed to get these pictures from the night. I was interested to see what both artists came up with, Graham as I was new to his work and Mat because he is one of those names you hear a lot of in Peterborough but I don't think we've ever crossed paths. Take a look at the pics, both boys smashed it. I have no idea who won though! Anybody?
Battle Lines IV was the first time for a team battle. It saw me partner up with Amanda Rigby while Process Smith joined forces with Arran Macphail. The Big Rig and I met up a few weeks before the event to discuss tactics and we decided to recreate a Christmas dinner scene with a twist. Some saw it as controversial but the Krampus worm was intended respectfully. What do you think, did we overstep the mark? Battle Lines is always a great night out with music, food and art but this was special and as ever Tony Nero captured it all on camera which you can see on the slideshow below. Its the last Friday of every month at The Ostrich if you fancy coming along. Search Battle Lines on Facebook and Instagram for more deets. Here is a real treat from the archives. Its a short but wonderful timelapse of a wall I painted at the Green Backyard a few years ago. Video courtesy of WilburforceUK. All this time later the wall is still there and being used. Looks a bit worse for wear but wouldn't you if you'd been left outside in the elements for a few years. Photo courtesy of Tony Nero.
