Its been too long since I've been to Battle Lines but I couldn't miss this one with two of my favourite artists battling it out at the new Resist Vegan kitchen restaurant inside the Key Theatre. The battle didn't disappoint with Si taking an early lead and covering most of his board within an hour, Chunxx came back strong though adding lots of detail and some very nice white on black. The eventual winner, decided by the crowd, was Si Mitchell who's freaky faces stole the show. Check out all the photos here and give the artists an Instagram follow by clicking the buttons at the end of the blog. Battle Lines is back on the last Friday of March at a location to be announced.

I've recently launched a campaign to help me get some t-shirts printed. If I pre-sell 20 before the end of February we go to print. If I don't sell 20 then everyone gets a refund. Here is how the design came about. The original sketch was completed a few weeks ago during a session where I was experimenting with new feet for my Korpworm character. I'd settled on these 3 pointed feet that, to me, look a little like the corners of a pillow case. I added all the other detail like the feathers, body stripes and arms but then, in order to fix what I thought was missing in the overall composition, I added really big fingers. Next stage was to scan the design and run it through Illustrator to turn it into a vector image. I knew the image would naturally work as black ink on a white t-shirt but I also wanted to add an option to have white ink on a black t-shirt (because black t-shirts are a lot more popular). So you can see from the image below I've added a small white border. Now being a poor starving artist I cant just go and pay for 20 t-shirts to be printed (don't feel sorry for me, I love my job) so I needed to mock up what they would look like. Luckily there are a few free Photoshop mock up files you can grab off the internet that do a great job and in past experience have been very accurate to what actually gets delivered. So the wrinkles are added to make it look more realistic but the first bit of feedback I got was you could have ironed the shirts...so I found a neat little Android app called UMM: Universal Marketing Mock-up that creates mock ups for you on a mobile device. If the campaign is successful the boys and girls and Sea Dog Print Studio have saved me a spot mid-March to have them printed so you can feel confident that the quality will be super high.
So help me out and pre-order your t-shirt today using the links below. I was back in my adopted hometown of Southsea on Saturday 9th February at the Spray for your Soul event. This was a small paint jam hosted by Staggering Good Brewery at their new bar the House of Rapture. This venue is amazing and I highly recommend you go visit. Set in the heart of an industrial estate from the outside it looks like any regular work unit until you spot the neon purple cross hanging above the door which is a small hint on what to expect when you go inside. The entire venue has been fitted with reclaimed materials from a church with pews for seating, full size stained glass windows throwing the warmest light across a smattering of Dinosaur heads and giant crosses. You have to see it to believe it, hats off to the owners for doing such an amazing job and being such gracious hosts. Also big thanks to Samo at Play Dead for inviting me along to paint with him, M-One, Winniemmay and Syrup. Check out the photos courtesy of Make Light Work and if you like what you see all the artists Insta links are down the bottom. As you can see the venue was dark with just a small heater above me providing my only source of light. This added to the mood of the place but presented a challenge for an artist painting a mural. Luckily I had Mike on hand from Make Light Work who kindly set up a battery powered LED light to help me see what I was doing. So cool that some people just have these things lying in their car. Although you might not be able to tell from the photo I was pretty happy with how my piece looked. The geometric pattern in the background looked good in different shades of grey and the custom korpworm, now know as korposaurus, popped out nicely. All done with stencils and spray paints. This design has a halftone finish to get a little shading in there while just using white ink on a black t-shirt. The solid white border is a nod back to my drawing style and really makes the character pop. Garment details: Gildan softstyle t-shirt with white screen print for maximum impact. Size Chest (to fit): S - 34/36" M - 38/40" L - 42/44" XL - 46/48" 2XL - 50/52" 3XL - 54/56" 4XL - 58/60" Images are mock ups and just a representation of the finished article.
