Its not finished yet but I thought I'd share some work in progress shots from my latest canvas. From concept through to nearly finished. Four Korpworms have been born today based on the Suede track "Trash". Head over to my Facebook page to get a chance to win these two loved up Korpworms. Originally one single piece of art these two worms have but cut in two and framed. Something I do with a lot of my work but don't always tell.
People often ask where they can get the pens I use, well the best prices are on line so why not have a read of what I've been using today. Uni Posca PC-1M is a fine hard bullet tip at 0.7mm that I really like because the nib is tough and doesn't wear down as quick as the other paint markers. Uni Posca PC-3M is another bullet tip but slightly larger at 0.9mm to 1.3mm and softer felt tip. These pens are perfect for colouring in some of the larger areas of a small piece. Check out my video here and you can see me use these pens to colour in the bigger stripes. If drawing on card be gentle because these pens will pull up the fibres from the paper and make your art look messy. Uni Pin Fine Line 0.1 Black is a new pen to me, very delicate and its super fine 0.1mm size mean it is ideal for the last bits of detail. It's not a paint marker so use it sparingly because it will reflect the light differently to the paint markers. To celebrate the birth of 3 new Korpworms today I have a full hyperlapse of Korpworm 29 being created. Korpworm 27 is in amongst some buildings I used to draw years ago, I like the fact that it toys with the expected scale of the worms. The empty buildings also echo the feeling that the worms exist in a post apocalyptic world. Korpworm 28 is playing with a feather which they like to adorn themselves with in order to prove how self aware they are. Korpworm #29 has lost it's feathers, there are tufts on the shoulders were the windswept feathers have been torn away. In 2012 Blok Collective organised for several Peterborough based artists to participate in the Brooklyn based Sketchbook Project which is home to the largest collection of sketchbooks in the world. The Sketchbook Project began in 2006 in Atlanta, GA and moved to New York City in 2009. Since that time they have grown into a worldwide community of more than 70,000 artists. By focusing on the intersection of hands-on art making and new technology, The Sketchbook Project nurtures community-supported art projects that harness the power of the virtual world to share inspiration in the real world. The Brooklyn Art Library is the storefront exhibition space in the heart of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY where The Sketchbook Project collection is on view to the public* and every now and then I get an email to say that somebody has checked out my book. My chosen theme was "the writing on the wall" and was biographical in nature. It dealt with the inevitably of who I would become so I delved into childhood nightmares, teachers that shaped me, isolation and religion for my inspiration. There is an album on my Facebook page that has some great photos of my book taken by a local tog but there is only one place you can see the complete finished book and that is on the Sketchbook Project website. The book is special to me because it is still a source of inspiration for my current work. It was the first (and second) place that I drew my worms, it uses my preferred media of stencil, spray cans and marker pens as well as my favoured colour combinations. Anyway, check it out by hitting the big red button above and be sure to let me know what you think. Tag the Walls is an urban art exhibition happening in Gloucester from the 12th December to help raise money for the 2015 Gloucester Paint Jam. Featuring 25 of the UK's top street artists who have all donated artwork in the form of luggage tags which will be framed, exhibited and then sold. The exhibition is being organised by Beastie and held at the Gloucester Guildhall (full address below) on the 12th December with a DJ kicking off proceedings from 8pm. Not sure if Beastie is planning to open up the sale of the tags on line so feel free to contact him via his new Facebook profile or page if there is anything you like. If you live in or near Gloucester then take a look at the event page for more details. I've done 3 tags but one will remain secret so you'll have to get to the exhibition to see it. With the other two I captured the creative process with Hyperlapse to give you a little look at how they are born.
The story goes that Santa has an evil twin. Santa takes care of all the good children and his evil twin Krampus deals with the naughty ones. Krampus also takes children who do not get socks for Christmas so you better be grateful when you get some. Expect to see more of Krampus over the next few weeks...only on my blog if you're lucky. This artwork is on a wooden fork and features Santa on the front and Krampus on the back. It's not for sale but if you want it simply share this blog post somewhere on social media and tag me so I know you've done it. The unlucky winner will be announced at the weekend.
